Don't have any SyTy experience w/ pipe wrap, but on my turbo Ford 302/Datsun 260Z, I wrapped the crossover pipe w/ asbestos (yup, was awhile ago), then heavy aluminum foil, secured w/ wire over that.  Was still going strong @ 3yrs when I got rid of the car.  Xover pipe was just welded muffler-shop tubing, too - nothing exotic.  I'll do the Sy soon's as I'm up under the motor again for some reason.
