I just looked at a heater box assembly that I have removed from a car.  The 
keys should be sitting on top of the 'mode door' inside.  The easiest way I 
see to access this area would be remove the heater core access cover, and 
reach in to the left. They should be right there.  Shouldn't take more than 
an hour, total.
