Boost spike

BR>Ok guys, got a question.
BR>#1. Everyone has diff. opinions about exhausts to run on a Ty. I have
BR>heard if you take off cat converter, you could get "boost spikes". Is
BR>this true?

That seems to be the consensus, we experienced them with our gutted cat.
Is there anyone running a gutted cat/test pipe that has the stock
chip/boost controls? Weird combo, I know, I'm just interested to see if
the ECM can control the boost if it 'knows' what it is...(most
aftermarket chips run higher than 14.7psi, the ecm is out of closed loop
boost mode, if below 14.7, it should remain in closed loop boost control
mode, and *may* be able to contain the spikes).

BR>#2. What is a boost spike?

Boost spike or creep is the boost level rising (or shooting, for a
better description) past a set level. Very dangerous condition that can
cause lean conditions/detonation, and will very quickly destroy an
engine.

BR>#3. Why wire IC pump to run when ignition comes on if you have a chip
BR>that turns it on at 60 degrees? (Its over 60 degrees outside most of
BR>the time where I live, therefore it should immediately kick the pump
BR>on correct? ) Thanks in advance..

If you have a chip that turns the IC pump on early, then you are set.
The stocker waits until the whole system is nice and hot and heat soaked
to turn it on; by that time it is practically useless and fighting a
losing heat battle.
