Problem with Rev limiter, chip or trans

Ever since I bought my Ty last June I thought that the transmition was
going since it would hesitate before shifting into 3rd at WOT and it would
not shift to 4th at WOT.  
On a WOT run the RPM's would bounce,  between 4500 and 4800 RPMs,
a little before the truck would shift into 3rd, then when it come to shift into
4th the RPM would bounce at 4700 to 5000 RPM and the transmition
would not shift until I backed off of the throule.  I never really noticed the
bouncing tach until now.
I bought the truck when it had 51,000 miles on it and the guy I bought it
from said that he had the dealership service the truck at 50,000, fluids,
etc. but he also said that they replaced the chip, why they did that I do not
know. 
Does any one have a easy fix for this, does the chip need to be replaced,
I have not opened the CPU to look at the chip yet, I am planing on doing
that this weekend.
