Mark,

It's funny that you asked that question because I'm in the middle of
trying to figure out what I'm going to do about my Q-forms. I currently
have a/d/s/ 325i's 5 1/4" and tweets mounted in them. Frankly I'm
disappointed in their performance. They are supposed to be a "perfect
fit. Hardly. I can stick three fingers below them where they meet the
floor. Not a very good seal resulting in midbass cancelation from the
backwave leaking through. The Q-forms resonate coloring the music,
particulary vocals and acoustic guitar. The problem, in my opinion is
that they aren't very good as a mid bass enclosure. They are to thin.
The walls should be thickened up with fiberglass to eliminate
resonation. Also, there is not enough air space behind the enclosure for
the speaker to work well. Forget about 3/4" MDF baffles, dynamat or
acoustic dampening material. It won't solve the problem caused by poor
engineering. A possible solution is to use them only for imaging. Maybe
crossover the midrange at 400 htz and install 6" midbass speakers in the
door panels. The positioning of the panels isn't optimal either. They
are aimed at each other. I hear the right speaker.(Amplifier gains equal
level inbothe channels) Not good. Ruins the sonic illusion of the center
channel. I'll probably spend some money and have a custom set of panels
made or I may just install the separates into the most forward area of
the doors in a custom panel that angles the speakers towards the
listeners ears.

My two cents worth.
