Re: [SYTY] Rearend cover

When I took the rear cover off my truck to pull the axles for my LS1 disc
conversion I noticed alot of metal in the bottom.. The stock posi gave up
the ghost, so I threw in an EATON POSI and did the old, "well, while I'm in
here" and upgraded to a similar cover like richard posted (the one from T/A
performance). The nice thing about both of those covers (the one from T/A
and Summit) is they allow you to put a certain preload on the rear end
carrier bearings with those two little studs sticking out..

Not sure if its really that "BIG" of a deal to us because we arent ripping
off 8-9sec passes and we have AWD but its nice to know that you have a
little more protection down there.

As for me I think the stock posi is over looked alot, I bet theres prolly
alot more of them that are bad and peeps just dont notice it because of the
AWD. I had visions of only one in the rear grabbing and one in the front
grabbing and launching me at the wall when I went to the track (hey, atleast
thats how I justified it to the wife ;) ) So I changed out the posi.

If a person really wanted to go NUCLEAR PROOF, I've heard that a 8.5" rear
end from a newer S-series truck is a bolt in and supposedly the 98+ have
disks on them (make sure ya get 3.42s). My problem was I already spent $350
on the rear discs off the LS1 and had already ordered the POSI from out west
by the time I was told so I'm sticking with the 7.625" rear. Hope this
helps, sorry to get long winded....
