Well, you probably have to program in what your gear ratios are ... then
it's just a mater of mathematics.
Using an accelerometer, you find out the rate of acceleration of the
vehicle. Calculate the area under the curve (integration) of the
acceleration, and you get Speed. Take the speed and apply the gear ratios,
and you get RPM. Calculate the area under the curve (integration) of the
speed and you get distance. This is how they can do 1/4 mile timings using
just an accelerometer.
It's all simple mathematics. ... well, not simple ... it is advanced
calculus.
