I can state unequivocally that it can't be done
with the engine and transmission joined and the front differential in place,
even with an adjustable load leveler on the sling.

Subject: [SYTY] Engine / Trans
Installation
Hey SyTy Guys - I posted this to the GN & TTA Lists,
and want to ask the same Q
Questions were raised a few years ago on the
GN & TTA lists about whether U could install a GN engine and 200-4R Trans
bolted together first. That is a hell of alot easier - I just installed a
Trans under the car by myself and this was a real war. I will never do it by
myself again !
Anyway, Frank Weeks and I just installed his 3.8 L w
200-4R attached into his TTA. No problemo - slide right in w the adjustable
load leveler on the hitch ! I measured the distance from the back of the
firewall to the back of the radiator on my GN and his TTA. The measurements
were as follows : ' GN - ~
40" TTA - ~
37 Typhoon - ~
33-34"
So, I submit that it should be no problem bolting together the
engine and trans on a GN or TTA and installing them at one time. This assumes
of course that U have an adjustable load leveler attachment between the lift
and the engine. These R available at Harbor freight for ~ $50-80. - well worth
it - or rent one.
Now the Sy/Ty engine compartment is indeed shallower
than the TTA one by 3-4". So, I will pose the Q to U guys also - Has anyone
installed the engine and trans together on a Sy/Ty ? I would imagine that U
would leave off the Transfer Case section.
