Re: [SYTY] Question about modification- Part 1

1)Check under the intercooler area for a 3 wire connector that isn't plugged in to anything.  Gm may have just unplugged the sensor and cut the wire off at the sensor.  If the connector is not there hopefully the wire is still in the engine harness, possibly cut back some, but you should be able to find by removing wires out of the engine harness.  I don't think Gm would have went to to much trouble to cut it back very far.  The good news  is if you can't find it you can always run a new wire straight from the ECM.  There are 3 wires  Blk/WHT=ground   PNK/BLK and a PPL one.  Each of the three connectors at the ECM  has a letter/number labeling system.  When you take the ECM out you should be able to see these.  PNK/BLK goes to A6      PPL goes to E14.    BLK/WHT goes to a ground.

2)Another thought- make sure you use a electric fuel pressure gauge.   The trans temp gauge sensor can be connected to a remote trans filter housing which one of the transmission gurus says is the most accurate place.  Summit racing carries these.

The Sy dash would be cool but I would want to verify how much work would be required to swap out the dash.   And yes the factory gauges aren't calibrated.  You just have to find out the norms for your truck and then watch for something out of the ordinary.
Hope this helps.

Subject: [SYTY] Question about modification- Part 1

Hi all Sy & Ty fellas,

Thank you all for your responses about my enquries. I wanted to clear few things and I thought I would let everyone reads it instead of it going to private e-mails so that we all can benefit from the discussion and share on the knowledge.

1- I can confirm that the O2 sensor is cut and I can see the O2 sensor with some wires coming out of it but its about half an inch long. I think for the chip to be installed I heard that I need the O2 to be re-connected. I have to check with the electrician I know if he can re-wire that device.

2- Thanks to Patrick Johnston I now have the list of gauges to buy which are: Boost/Vacume + Fuel Pressure + Transmission Temp. Those will be the gauge pod on the Lo-Tek A-Piller. The Tach with different colors would be installed somewhere else in the Sy and most probably in the cup holder area as that area is of no use to me. The only concern is that it is too low to look at although I would for sure will angel the whole thing to point up to my vision through the use of a box that I will fabricate to sit in that area and house the tach. Wish there is another solution. Any thoughts.

Dave Goodhue asked if I ever thought of converting to a normal Sy dash and this is a dam good suggestion. I never thought of that actually. Now the question is how much would it cost to do that. I think it would cost somewhere in the range of $500 if not more. While the gauge pod (about $50) and few pods ($120) + a normal tach ($60) plus all the tubing and hardware would be somewhere in the range of ($30). The total is somewhere around half the cost of a normal Sy dash, plus the fact that we operate with the metric system which means that speed should be shown in KM and not in Miles. I also heard that the stock Sy dash gauges are somewhat on the un-precise technology, so the idea of installing something of that quality never crossed my mind actually except if you know something that I do not.
