Back in the day, some chips from various well known manufacturers were indeed unexceptable and that old information may be the origin of his concerns. That isnt the case if you do your homework and go with an upgrade that is working well for many. I doubt your issues are "chip" related, but likely the cause of an ECM on its way out. It is not uncommon for our ECM's to fail, without any help from aftermarket "chips." If possible, try swapping ECM's with one that is known to be good to eliminate it as a possibility.
