[ISTA] engine rebuild stuff and such(help wanted)
Hey list,
I am about to be forced into driving the Sy as a
daily driver. It has 93k miles, but I still want it to
be as nice as a driver can be and dependable too. Ever
since I bought the trk, it smokes when first started.
It also has an oil leak that is getting worse that we
diagnosed to be the rear main. Now I am getting a huge
cloud behind me when I take off or hit WOT.
I plan on taking the eng all the way down to bare
block and cleaning, honing, and rebuilding as much as I
can afford. I want to replace all of the bearings,
seals, and gskts. I will not be boring her at this
point if it is not necessary. All of the factory
internals will be reused. I was thinking of the ATR
cam and a set of steel roller 1.6 rockers from Summit
though. Any advice on what to use as far as brands and
what I should consider replacing?
I will put a new oil pump, water pump,160 thermo, all
hoses & belt, and do a complete tune up. I found out
that in 93' Ty eng, the timing chain is a "roller
type" whereas the 92' and 91' are standard sets. Is
this where GM picked up the extra 5hp on the 93'? I am
going to use it or possibly a Pete Jackson gear drive
for that "blower whine". Any thoughts on this?
Sorry for writing a book, but I need to get this
done asap. Thanks,LB
